I'm thinking of getting one, because if I got a second 1080 display I would have the bezel obstructing my view when gaming. Also I wasn't wanting to get triple 1080 displays, mainly because it's too expensive and my 280X will struggle running them at a reasonable frame rate. I took a look at some 21:9 displays, but I'm a bit worried that my games won't support that aspect ratio and menus will be stretched, etc.

Please enlighten me.

AOC's new 3440*1440 is out in October from memory.

I was looking at 2560 x 1080 displays myself. I'll take a look though.

I have a neutral position on 21:9 monitor they sound cool but the price isn't very attractive. I would assume most new games should support 21:9 but if a game doesn't there will be black bars on both sides.

Yeah, that was something I was worried about.

Yeah, that was something I was worried about.

I would just wait for 4K and then upgrade/add another GPU. 4K 60Hz IPS (Dell UP2414Q) is already around 750$ now and even less when used so it shouldn't be long until they are even cheaper. The monitor

yeah but he said he wanted more scren real estate and that thing would be the same size as a reagular monitor only with more pixels

The issue with 29: 2560x1080 is they're too  short in terms of height in comparison to their width.

you mean they have widened pixels?

Well it depends on what size monitor you're used to. If you're used to 23" 1080p displays then a 29" 21:9 should be quite fine for you.

Here's a visual comparison: http://www.displaywars.com/23-inch-16x9-vs-29-inch-21x9

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

I've seen a lot of the new monitors - 21:9 in a 29" is just too height restricted

I'm running a 24 inch display at the moment, if I was to want the same height as my current display I'd have to get a 32 inch 21:9 monitor.

Like all of the games i played support 21:9, like seriously all of them, and it's freakin great, so it's a must buy if you're considering it, and also all of the games you listed have support for 21:9. (Not sure for the games that hasn't been released yet, but almost all new games works native, not shitty Ubisoft console ports though)

Btw WSGF is a great forum to find out if a game works in 21:9.

Well my comment wasn't for you specifically, just in general. But it seems that 29" 21:9 displays aren't everyone's cup of tea. That's quite fine. I wouldn't expect them to be. I know 34" displays with a res of 3440x1440 is where most people are at right now and that's the direction that most people will take...but it does come with a 4 figure price tag to match unfortunately :(.

IMO I find those monitors a little to wide for their height and it just looks strange, plus I need  some wiggle room in terms of vertical space.. sadly they're the opposite of that.

It doesn't bother me too much, the field of view is really important to me in FPS games, etc.

I was looking at this monitor today:

http://www.aocmonitorap.com/root/anz/product_display.php?id=408

It's the cheapest 29 inch I could find. Is it good for gaming?

Also does Mini Displayport support 2560 x 1080 @ 60Hz?
