Computer won't boot

samcat116

I just finished my first build and had it running for a fair while. But then I turned it off and now it will not turn back on. When I turn it off it tries to start up but after around 5 seconds it shuts off. Then it tries again. There is no signal on the monitor as well. Any thoughts to how I could fix this? It has been running fine for the past few hours.

check all your power connections

esp your mobo power connectors

push them in tightly

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Make sure all cables are connected properly, such as CPU 4/8 pin. If all is good then try resetting CMOS

I've had this exact same thing happen to me a couple of times. It turns on (lights, fan spins, bells and whistles) then goes off, then turns on again, then turns off. Although I'm not sure its the same with yours.

In my case, its the RAM. Try switching the slots they're in, or just check if you have them put in correctly. Check all of your power connectors, make sure none of them are loosely fit.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Check your cable connections.

Swap your RAM sticks around or remove 1 stick (only applicable if you have more than 1 stick of RAM)

Check your PSU to make sure it's working fine
