Allocating ram to minecraft (not allowing me)

SeniorJimmy

I just finished my new pc build, and as i wanted to allocate more ram i ran into some problems.

I have 16GB's on my pc and i only wan't to add like 3 or 4 more to minecraft but as i run it, it comes with this error: Invalid maximum heap size:
-Xmx4G

The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.

So normally i just edit this line and it works like a charm but for some reason it won't work :(
-Xmx4G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M

If anyone has a great idea please let me know, thanks in advance :D

Isn't there an option in the launcher to allocate more RAM? How much are you trying to allocate? I haven't played Minecraft in a long time so I'm not up to date with how it works.

EDIT: Oh yeah, do what was said above, I forgot 32-bit has RAM limitations.

I believe you can use the new launcher to allocate more RAM to minecraft. Although, some wise words for you. Vanilla Minecraft with NO MODS OR TEXTUREPACKS only need a max of 1GB to get a decent framerate (over 60fps) at Far render distance. Vanilla Minecraft WITH TEXTUREPACKS BUT NO MODS only need a max of 1.5GB to get a decent framerate at Far render distance. With mods however, the RAM required is dependant on what mod you choose to include. Mods like IC2 and Wireless Redstone eat RAM like a drug addict so a recommended size with those mods installed would be 4-5GB
