So I have an A4-5300(totally sucks, but I got it in a combo for like 275 so why not). And a R7 250 GDDR5. So I thought the graphics card was pretty good and would be able to max out at least the DayZ mod because it passed the recommended specs(CPU didn't). Yet, I only get like 20-25 frames. On my brother's PC with the i5-3570k but a Radeon HD 7570 but his PC maxed out DayZ. So I was wondering to get an Athlon x4 750k. Would it be good?

r7 250 is definitely more powerful than 7570. so i guess cpu upgrade wouldn't hurt.

You first might want to test a variety of games to isolate the idea of which to upgrade.

Some games are CPU intensive, some games are GPU intensive.

Unless your plan is to play the DayZ mod for a long time then maybe the CPU upgrade will suit you.

You can't really expect the R7 250 to perform that well, at least an R7 260/265 in my opinion would be better, although its a minor jump from the R7 250.

What resolution do you play in and what games do you play?

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

I play at 1600x900 which I think isn't that intensive. My PC can max out all the games I play(borderlands 2, CS:GO, Dota 2, and Garry's Mod). But it stutters on occasions which I suspect is the CPU.

yea your CPU is the bottleneck

depending on your current mobo

you should be able to buy a 760K which is plug and play CPU only

and pair with the R7 250 should be fine

but we need to know your current PC specs in full

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I have about 400 hours logged on Dayz mod and 200 on Dayz SA. Dayz/ARMA are both very CPU intensive. So ya, I would recommend a upgrade. I remember I had the same problem, its just time for some new hardware. And if you feel comfortable and your CPU is unlocked, you can probably overclock it a bit. But that is not solving the problem, its just avoiding it.

Play time is Ogre.

Day Z is optimized for 1 core most of the time, so you have very slow AMD core, you got small fps. Fast Intel core even on Pentium will be faster, so you must upgrade your cpu, not gpu.
