Like the jump from Intel's IGPU to the 6670.

Stellar.

Also, does your monitor support at least 1080p?If not, then you're also gonna need a new monitor.

I see we have the same resolution monitors.

Let me tell you this...my 560 runs BF3 on high settings at about 40-50 fps.(and at 1680 x 1050).

And now...my 560 is equal to what...an R7 265?An R9 270?

You've got the point I think.

The R9 290 will run anything at about 60fps at 1080p,and almost anything at around 60fps at 1440p.

my monitor is currently 1680x1050, but if i get the 290 i will go 1080p or 1440p..

The 290 really shows at high resolution. (Anything above 1080p)

Ill get a new psu, i dont think a cx 500M can handle an i5 and a 290

It actually would be just enough, depending on how old it is though - I would never recommend cutting it too close on the PSU side, good news is you wont need that much more - 600w - 650w max and you're golden. I would recommend looking into something from evga, just come ask around the forum if you're not 100% sure what you selected is good or bad. :)

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

not even... it's like a 260x/ 750ti.

You'll notice a night and day difference. 4x the difference if you get a 1440p (in physical pixels) xD
