Need Help; Can no longer use e-mail that was on custom URL

Okay, I'm asking this question for my friend to try to help him find a solution. His main email address, which was a gmail account, was registered to the custom domain name of his website. Earlier today he let the URL expire because he no longer used it. Is there a way he can get back into is gmail account?

 

(I wasn't quite sure the terms/words to use at some points, so if something doesn't make sense just tell me and I'll try to clarify)
