Xbox360 games is not same as XBOX games you need an HDD to run the game.

One of my friends is trying to play an original Xbox game (GTA San Andreas) on his Xbox 360.  

But it gives him an error message saying:

 

"Original Xbox Game

You need to attach an Xbox 360 Hard Drive to play original Xbox games. For more info, visit www.xbox.com/games"

 

Does anyone know the solution to this?  (sorry I don't know anything about Xbox 360)

Is he trying to play the game from a usb?

obviously you need to put a harddrive into that thing

Xbox360 games is not same as XBOX games you need an HDD to run the game.

The 360 slim and after are not backwards compatible if he hasn't got the first gen 360 it won't work

Slim can play original xbox games (Source = I have played it and I still do)

Does it have a HDD?

I don't think so.  Did the older 360s not come with a HDD?

only Xbox360's that didnt come with HDD's were the Arcade models.

He says he doesn't know if he has a HDD.  I guess that's the issue.  Thanks everyone.

This will clear it up.

 

The Xbox 360 hard disk is required to play any of the games on this list. The hard disk is used not only to store the emulation software, but also to store saved games, store downloaded content, and to serve as a data cache for titles which utilize disk caching. Since games for the original Xbox were designed with the expectation that a hard drive would always be available, most titles rely heavily on the presence of one.

It also states the issue you will get when playing certain games. handy to know what issue you will face i guess.
