hey guys, im looking for a new gaming keyboard, all i need is volume keys (mute, down,up) and to be under £40

thanks! :)

Seriously, spend some more money and get a mechanical, best advice you're gonna get. And try as many key types as you can before buying, because its all down to preference.

CPU: i7 3770k@ 4.6Ghz@ 1.23v - GPU: Palit GTX 660ti - MOBO: Asrock Extreme 4 - RAM: Corsair vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz - PSU: OCZ 650watt - STORAGE: 128Gb corsair force GT SSD/ 1TB seagate barracuda 7200rpm

                                                                                         COOLING: NH-U14s/ 3x Noiseblocker blacksilent pros/ Silverstone Air Penetrator/ 2 corsair AF120s

im not spending over £100 on a keyboard... all i need is a high key rollover so i can press many keys at the same time, and volume keys so i can change the audio level in game. my old keyboard, logitech wireless k360 worked great, it had 5 key rollover which was high enough for me and had volume keys. unfortunately it broke, well it started getting extremely laggy.

i'm 16, i don't have a job, so spending over £100 on a keyboard would just be stupid.

EDIT: im not 100% sure what i said about the logitech keyboard k360 is correct. keyboard key rollover seems to be very complicated...

Look into the razer deathstalker. There are 3 versions (essential, expert and ultimate). The essential has no backlight and is super cheap for a gaming keyboard, yet high razer quality. You can spend a little more and get the expert which is the exact same with the green backlight keys. Both are in your price range. It isn't mechanical but does have scissor switches like a laptop which I love.

The dedicated volume keys are unnecessary, just download KeyTweak and set two of your less used keys to volume up and down (I use Page Up and Down)

Please tell me you're joking about razer being high quality.

No? Ive owned a 4 razer products now and they've all been great. Their stuff use to be crazy overpriced but most peripherals are priced competitively now. All their stuff gets great reviews so im not sure why there is this underlying opinion that razer products are poor quality.

You can get a much better keyboard if you spend a little bit more money. I don't think purchasing an expensive membrane keyboard is worth it at all.

Everything I've ever bought from them has died within at most six months. This is the main reason I will never buy from them nor recommend them to anyone again.

I've bought:

  • 2 Naga's (2012 and 2014 editions)
  • 1 deathadder
  • 1 blackwidow ultimate (2012 edition)
  • 1 Lycosa
  • 1 Arctosa
  • 1 Sphex
  • 2 xbox controllers (i forgot which models)

All of which died far too soon after purchase for me to want to recommend their products to anyone.

Get a quickfire xt, about 100usd (around 62 pounds) (sorry, wrong price) with fn volume keys, mechanical, n-key rollover if used with p/s2 but I don't know if volume control works over p/s2.

either way, it's a great buy (looks plain as balls too)

That's crazy. Only 2 of my 4 items are past the 6 month time frame so ill have to keep my fingers crossed I guess.

Don't all of these have a 1 year warranty?

thanks, i might get that if the keyboard i get doesnt have volume keys. is it possible to make it so that it's a combination, like ctrl+numpad- and ctrl+numpad+? just cause i like to have all my keys available.

thanks, they're over what i wanted to spend but not by too much. i'm not too sure about the first one, i don't like that it's not printed on top of the key. the 2nd and 3rd ones look great though.

also you guys are worrying me about razer products now :L. are they really that bad for everyone? surely if they broke within 6 months people wouldn't buy them? my old keyboard (logitech k360) lasted 3 years and i used my computer all the time, and i was hoping it would last a little bit longer then that. but 6 months...? thats just crap.

also i found this keyboard: corsair raptor k30: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CH-9000043-UK-Performance-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B00FLTW8W8

only thing i don't like about it is its red LED backlit. but tbh seeing as thats only there if the backlight on i really shouldn't complain. what do you guys think of it?

thanks! :)

Yeah, Razer does not have the best quality in their more lower end hardware. usually their high end stuff is pretty standard build quality, but not build like a tank. Corsair makes some nice stuff, can't go wrong, but the non-mechanical KBs feel a little over prices to me personally. But if you like it, and it fits all your needs, than get it!

I don't beleive KeyTweak does that, so you'd be better off with AutoHotKey

The difference between the two is that KT has a nicer (IMO) user interface and no scripting knowledge necessary.
