What cpu for gaming build?

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

Is it worth taking away the SSD for a better graphics card?

IMHO it is, if you are going to mainly game on this machine and don't mind sacrificing slightly longer loading time for a much better gaming experience once the game loaded...

SSD won't affect gaming performance, it only makes things loads faster...the GPU has the most impact on gaming performance amongst all the parts within your PC, so if you're building a gaming PC get the best GPU you can get!

You can always consider the SSD as a future upgrade when you'll have more money available.

I currently have chosen fx 6300 do you have a different cpu you can suggest and why?

http://www.inet.se/kundvagn/visa/6830165/data-setup This is my build if wish to buy if you want to see my budget.

To make it easier my budget is ca 9.5k SeK-1000$

If you can find a processor that fits into this then that would be awesome.

I apologize for not being specific enough.

I am pretty sure I will overclock cpu and gpu.

for this budget, the fx6300 is probably the best option. good selection of the other parts as well ;)

Do you ever plan to overclock? My suggestion would  be an Intel i5 4690 or 4690k if you ever plan to overlclock.

I think that costs too much for me.

But It might be my fault for not being specific enough with the price.

Well balanced build, that is a mid range gaming PC that will run games on high settings at 1080p smoothly, nothing over the top but good enough. Good luck!

Lots of budget conscious choices in that build, i would suggest a better motherboard for overclocking with better VRM's and more power phase, if you could find the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P or the ASUS M5A97 EVO for not much more money it would be better but other than that it's nice build!

OHHH and i don't think those vengeance RAM will fit under the hyper 212 they are too tall you'd have to go with lower profile RAM...they might fit but just to be on the safe side i would pick something else..

If you could find room in the budget to fit the R9 280 instead of the 270x it would be MUCH better...

Sounds great. Do I buy 280 or 280x? (I think I can pay the extra money for 280x over 280 with my allowance)

are you going to play at 1080P?

Look, the 7950 boost perform the same as the R9 280 (wich is a rebrand of the HD7950 but slightly overclocked (boost...) versus the R9 280X, so you can see if the performance difference seems to be worth the money difference for you, those are quick and dirty benchmarks but it's just to give you a good idea of average performance you could expect from both GPU's:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1033?vs=1041

Personaly i would stretch for the R9 280X if possible, mostly if you play games at 1080P and like high detail settings (high/Ultra)

In any case, make sure that the card you buy is not a reference cooler design card, wich looks like this, those run's hot and are loud:

AMD-Radeon-R9-280X-Photo.jpg

Any other cards that has a non-reference cooler design will do great, pick the one you like the look and is at a good price.

Yes I want to play on 1920X1080p and I have only played games on sucky mac laptop and then slightly better but still kinda sucky school laptop. So never had a dedicated graphics card always turning of shadows. Getting back to topic high and ultra looks nice but it's mostly the feeling of being able to max games that is interesting to me. But it doesn't matter much if it's high or ultra to me. But I have read that with 280(X) I can play most games on ultra.

The 3gb graphics memory seems like a waste for me. Since I am only gonna use 1 monitor :/

yes that is true, re-read my previous post as i added some useful info about GPU coolers. Both the R9 280 and R9 280X i think you will find it to be quite powerful so pick a card within your budget, but the 280X is noticeably better, yes.

Considering the CPU you are going with though, maybe the R9 280 is a more balanced pick...what kind of price difference are you looking at between both cards?

If I am comparing the MSI edition for both then it's 359 SeK-50,66$ keep in mind things are more expensive here because of the extra tax.

what percentage of the total price does that represent? i have a hard time figuring out if it's worth the price difference...i'm sorry :)

Oh ok. The 280 is 2 190 SeK 280X 2 549 SeK. 2190/349=6.3(rounded of) 100/6.3=15.8 So it's a 16% increase. (rounded of)

well...the R9 280X is average 17% faster than the R9 280, so it's your call really as obviously you get what you pay for at those prices.
