Using another PCI-E x16 slot?

you need to get a smaller cooler

or change the mobo

Hello, I am getting a new cooler soon but it might obstruct the first PCI-E x16 slot where my graphics card is gonna go. If it does obstruct my PCI slot, will I lose any performance if I insert my GPU into the second PCI slot? Will I lose any performance? Will I still get the same framerate? My motherboard is SLI ready so it does have another PCI-E x16 slot. Thanks.

CPU+Cooler: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.5GHz + Corsair H105 (Getting custom loop soon)  GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC  RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB  Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero  PSU: Corsair AX860i  Case: Corsair Graphite 760T Black

can you link the mobo that you are using?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

This is my current mobo: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4591#ov

This is the mobo that I am getting soon: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97KCSM/

But I am not using my cooler with my current mobo as I am getting the new mobo, cpu and cooler at the same time.

1 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 mode, gray)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (max at x4 mode, black) *1
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1
2 x PCI

second is running at x4 mode

you need to pick a board which is SLi ready

But the new mobo I want has 2 x x16 slots anyway :D so I don't really need to worry about obstructions.
