This is a question about not SLI/X-fire but having 1 amd gpu and 1 nvidia gpu on a pc.

What i am asking is: Is it possible to have an AMD cpu (lets say an r9 280(x)) for the powerful gpu in a system and hten a cheap Nvidia gpu (e.g gt 630) to handle physx?

My PC:

Nope unfortunately not, you can have 1 nvidia gpu and 1 nvidia gpu for physx but not 1 amd card 1 nvidia card

Physx cards are pretty pointless anyway, if you want to play physx heavy games just get one single high end nvidia card

technically you could have an r9 280 and a 770 and switch between them but not exactly worth it

Yes you can, although it only reaps some benefits (but it's still worth it :) )
