I've always wanted a home media-server to store all my movies, music and files and since i didn't have a big budget to build it i used old/spare parts that were laying around. It works perfectly and i'm happy with it. This build is not entirely done yet since i might do future upgrades... I'd love to see your opinions in this thread so be free to say anything :)

 

 

Specs:

 

Motherboard:Asus P7H55-M PRO

CPU: Intel i5 661

Case & CPU Cooler: I don't know the names of the case and the cpu cooler they were laying around and i used them.

PSU: 500W Cooler Master RS-500-PCAR-D3 (non-modular)

Memory: 2X4GB = 8GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600Mhz

Storage: 64GB Crucial M4 SSD (Boot Drive), 3x 2TB = 6TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks (Storage)

The HDD's (I already had 2 of them and bought a third one)

I know WD Reds and Greens are better for Servers and such but this are the ones i could use at the moment and they're fast 7200rpm drives with 64MB Cache

And i still have the 5 year warranty with them :) .

What OS are you using?

I've been using windows media server 2011 but i might change to FreeNas.
