Back to school gaming notebook<1k

Hey guys, so my friends have asked me to find them a laptop for Uni next year. I have a ~$1000 budget and I was wondering what was the best option. To be 100% honest, they wont be doing any heavy gaming, mostly smite, FM 2014 skyrim and other random games, nothing TOO extensive so it doesn't have to be a legit "gaming notebook".

I was looking at the lenovo ideapad y5xx's which seem to be fairly good value for the price, however I've heard that the build quality is nothing too impressive, is there anyone that could convince me otherwise?

Basically what I'm looking for is suggestions with links to newegg or ncix any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

get a y50 newer version of the y510p. build quality is good enough for the value you are getting.

this one is slitghly over your budget and is less powerful, but it potentially will have better build quality. it also has a stupid dvd drive. lenovo is much better in my opinion.

It's a good idea not to go with a laptop that has insane specs such as the Y510p because they suffer from massive heat issues. I suggest a Lenovo Y50 or an ASUS G550JK. Both look beautiful. The Y50 for $1k is has an i5 and an 860m, while the G550JK has an i7 and an 850m. Both can drive Skyrim quite well, and I have seen gameplay of Skyrim at 1080p but I wouldn't know any further details.

Thank you guys for the help, I think I`m going to go with the lenovo y510p since I`m in Canada and the prices are slightly higher, and I agree, it seems like pretty great value
