Toshiba Laptop powers on then straight off

Guest

Hi

So I'm in a really awkward position having agreed to look at someones laptops which was virus-infested, I have since cleaned the laptop (in a software sense) but upon restarting it (already done that a few times with no trouble) its stopped powering on, I left it while it was restarting so don't know if it powered off but then not back on or just died on shut down.

Either way whenever I push the power button it turns on for 2-3 seconds, can hear fans and CD drive starting up, then it all goes off again, no display on the screen no error codes or flashing lights, just nothing.

Any ideas?

Can you go into the BIOS?

Go on the internet and look for a HDD test, and startup.

Enable external boot device in BIOS

Start from external USB/HDD

Start the test!

It wasn't going anywhere, however I did find that when spamming the F2 and Delete keys (specifically these two) the laptop powers on but gives no display or any indication its booting, powering it off by the button then powering it on again after this and it seams to work fine then the problem returns later.

I have reset the BIOs which did not help, I will test the Hard Drive too.
