System upgrade question ?

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

I usually get the non-reference card anyway so that is not a big problem for me , So i have a final question in term of performance which one is better the 780 or 290?

both are quite similar

but the 290 wins as you can game at Ultra without worrying about VRAM bottleneck

So I am currently using the I5 4440 and the r9 270x and i want to upgrade my PC soon but i don't know if i should get another 270x and run both of them in crossfire or getting a brand new GPU like a 780 or 290 or 290x. I would also like to know if my CPU can handle the high end graphic card like the 780/290/290x and i'm using a 550W power supply which i think don't have enough juice to power those card either

Mainboard:ROG-STRIX-B360-G-GAMING/Cpu:I5 8400 /Gpu: Galax RTX 2070 /Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4/ Storage:1TB HDD 2 Corsair SSD PSU : Corsair 550W/Cooling: Silverstone Air Cooler/ / Case : Corsair/Keyboard:Razer Chroma TKL/Mouse:Mionix Castor+Steelseries Qck Mass/Headphone:V Moda M100

R9 280X or 290

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Get a 780. Your 550W can power it (though you may be on the edge). You won't be bottlenecking it with a 4440 either.

He'll be 100% fine with a 550W PSU and a 780 or an R9 290, especially with a haswell CPU. Also, I second this. Get a GPU upgrade and stick with the i5 4440 for a while.

Not sure if a 290 will run on a 550W, I know a 780 can. Just not the 290x, terrible value. If your PSU can handle a 290 then get the 290.

yes it will run fine with 550 watts coz it running at 250+ watts

290X need a total of 600 watts since the GPU draws 300+ watts average

I don't get alot of chance to upgrade my PC so i want to get the best part if that mean a new power supply then it is ok i will need one someday right ? But i heard that the 290 run very hot and loud so im a little bit concern about that

It kicks out a lot of heat into your case/room but the core itself doesn't run that hot or loud if you have a non-reference card.

The R9 290 is a really good card, and the Sapphire Tri-X cooler will lower the noise significantly. You also wouldn't have to upgrade your PSU (post the exact model to make sure) to run it properly, so it's the best option IMO.
