In most cases yes, but go for a 290 instead, $150 cheaper, and the SAME performance, just as good, no reason for a 780 compared to it

if you want to save money and get same performence or even better R9 290 Tri-x

It's a great card and performs really good, but the R9 290 is very close in performance and maxes out everything on 1080p and is $100-150 cheaper.

I'm doing 1080p, but want something that will give me best performance and last a long time.

Dude quit the fanboy shit, the 290 is $150 cheaper and performs THE EXACT SAME! If you have the money to spend at the 780 price point get a 290x it preforms ALMOST THE SAME AS A 780ti !

I prefer the features Nvidia has and reliable drivers. Sorry, not necessarily being a fanboy when one company has something I like and the other doesn't. I used to have an all AMD build before, so I like both.

Shield has what to do with PC gaming ... I have no want to play my PC games on a 7" screen game pad console POS ?  Oh and nvidia is gonna make you pay for something that will be free it's called open standard tech like Free Synch. Shadowplay well that's all good for the 1% of gamers that like to record gameplay but it's not making the gameplay any better so theres that.

G-sync only works with $800 monitor or same monitor without gsync with a $400 kit currently.

 

Freesync will work with 290...etc. which are desktop cards.

 

Just because Nvidia shield currently exists that does not mean AMD will not have anything similar later(maybe it will work with PSV).

 

None of that shadowplay, gsync, somewhat better drivers, and shield justifies $150 more.

Not to mention you need to pay a lot more to take advantage of those(gsync and shield).

the G-sync kit is $200. Saying AMD may come out with a shield later so it is irrelevant is like saying Mantle is irrelevant because Nvidia may come up with their own API. Those features not being worth the extra money is an opinion.
