On my gf's AMD motherboard I have completely stripped the last screw left holding in the backplate. At this point I think it's completely unrecoverable, so I have been trying to find a cpu cooler that is compatible with the AMD backplate and I am not having any luck. Does anyone know of a cpu cooler that works with the stock backplate on AM3

Most if not all new coolers come with there own backplates. As do waterblocks for CPUs

or perhaps go on ebay and find a replacement?

Find a replacement? The stock backplate is stuck I completely stripped the screw

depending on location, you can get a metal backplate pretty cheap (i paid $3USD

shipped for a missing AM3+ plate). newegg at one time had them, too.

it'll be a PITA to remove the stripped screw to replace, but it will deffo make

temperature differences with proper pressure allied to the CPU IHS.

sometime the plate is secured with double-sided tape to prevent vibration/chaffing.

Why not get a pliers and just unscrew it that way? Or glue something to it then turn it, just be careful though...

I think I made my original post unclear. This is a new build from the ground up. I currently have no cpu cooler installed, as the AMD backplate will not come off, but I'm just going to put the other screws back in and use this cooler: http://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Alpine-64-Plus-Cooler/dp/B007BVCBOE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405796106&sr=8-2&keywords=AMD+stock+fan
