Hi, I am kind of new to building PC's and would like to know if the build I made is customized to my liking. My budget is around $1500 to $2000(US Dollars). My PC will be mostly used for Web Browsing/Office, Video Editing, Photo Editing, Programming, and for running virtual machines. I also love Gaming. Some games I play on are Minecraft PC, Battlefield 4, League of Legends, and Forza. Also, my operating system of choice would be Windows 8.1 Professional(Already have a copy) with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Finally, My monitor is a 2560x1440p monitor. My mouse and keyboard will be a Razer Deathadder and a Corsair Vengeance K70 Keyboard(Cherry MX Blue). The reason I am upgrading is because my Dell 2012 Laptop is not handling my daily usages and programs. Here is the PcPartPicker link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zXZjBm . Thank you for your help.

Ditch the 780 6gb, it's wasted money. I suggest you get an R9 290, it's cheaper and faster at high resolutions like 1440p. Also, for the psu you are better off with a corsair RM750. Everything else is very good, surprisingly good for a first build.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I'd spend less on the case, it's a personal preference mainly, but picking such enclosure with a high price tag that doesn't have black/sleeved cables and has a lot of plastic is not in my likings, something like a Source 530 is big, has lots of space and ventilation, and costs $80. Even the Enthoo Pro looks more reasonable.

You are also $20-$25 of a very nice PSU, 80+ gold, fully modular, with all black cables, and higher quality. The CX series are great and have a lot of value, but it's not aimed for a high end system with a possible 780 SLI

I agree, R9 290 is good choice because performance is on pair with GTX 780 and is cheaper. Unless you need CUDA performance I would go AMD in this build.

The memory modules are too tall to fit under the NH-D15 fan that overhangs memory. The fans can be raised if the case allows or omitted. Doing either will affect cooling. You might consider the NH-U12S or NH-U14S which are designed not interfere with tall memory modules. The other option is to get memory that does not have tall heat sinks - G.Skill Ares, Corsair Vengeance LP, Corsair XMS Classic, Crucial Balistix Elite, Crucial Balistix Sport.

A better power supply would be good. It could also be a touch smaller unless you plan to add a second GTX 780. Models you should consider, in no particular order: Antec HCG-620M, Antec HCG-750M, XFX P1-650X-XXB9, XFX P1-750X-XXB9, XFX P1-750B-NLG9, Seasonic M12II 620, Seasonic SSR-650RM. There are many others but these are all reasonably priced and of good quality.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

How about the 780 TI?

nonono, the price/performance ratio is terrible for that one. You still only gain 5-6 fps over a 290, it's not worth 300$+ more.If you absolutely want more performance, get 2 R9 290s and crossfire them, the performance gain is about 70% higher compared to a 780ti for just a little more money.

Is the 290 good for video editing?

It depends on what program you're using (most programs can still use it and get good performance, however if they're optimized for openCL they will perform better while if they're optimized only for CUDA they'll perform worse), but either way these are gaming cards, if you want video editing performance you should look elsewhere. If you have a gaming grade card most of the computing is done on the cpu anyway because the gpu isn't optimized for computing.
