Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, but I think it's very helpful so far. I'm going to college and I have around $2000 to spend on a gaming rig. I'd love it if you guys could help me out on what I should build. Also, I'd like to play on really high settings if that helps.

My favorite games are: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Just Cause 2, Age of Mythology, Age of Empires III, GTA IV & V, Star Wars Battlefront I & II, Borderlands II, Saints Row The Third, Minecraft, and Bioshock Infinite. I'd love to play other new games, it's just that my laptop is shit at playing games.

I'd also love it if the rig is powerful enough to both edit photos in Photoshop and edit videos.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you guys for responding so quickly!!

1. I'm in a budget of around $2000 in the U.S.

2. The system will be used for graphics-intense gaming and photo/video editing

3. I plan on running one monitor, preferably around 27-36 inches at 2560x idk

 resolution.

4. I do need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and windows 8.1

I don't need speakers but I do need a sound card because I am going to buy speakers later

5. I'm upgrading because I have a Macbook pro with retina display that plays games like shit and I'm tired of playing games on low settings through boot camp. I also want a Windows-dedicated computer.

Depending on when it comes out, you may want to wait for Windows Nein instead of getting 8.1

Just a thought. Also go with Nvidia cards, they might "run slower" but a single 780 (or 2 for things like an extremely modded skyrim) will be better than the r290 because it will be quieter, run cooler, and actually has support for most of the games out there, unlike Mantle based cards that have support for very few games, and a whole bunch "in the works".

If you feel like fiddling go with radeon (and hope it doesn't burn itself out), you want it to just work, go with Nvidia.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Some explanation for the parts I am suggesting.

FPS gaming relies on the gpu for performance and Photoshop will use the gpu to accelerate many editing tasks. Unless you are working with large 3D projects the i5 has more than enough power.

Thanks! I didn't know that stuff. With that video card, what settings do you think I could run Skyrim or some other big game at?

Awesome! What settings/fps do you think it would run Skyrim or some other graphics-intense game at?

At 1440p, I'm guessing 60fps Ultra on Skyrim, should be able to run recent games at high 60 fps.
