It will work just fine (those two drives in RAID 0). The theory suggests to use to identical sized and base performance drives and those two are the same size (check) and rotate at the same speeds so in the same ball park performance-wise (check two).

You are safe to put your seat in the upright position and commence RAID 0 :D

I've done 2x 1TB from Seagate and WD, worked fine, maybe a 5% speed loss overall to a dedicated matched raid 0 system.

However, I've only done this once, and that system has only been online 10 months... so far so good.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

You should expect 2x speed improvements or almost 2x for read and write operations. You can always run your favorite drive performance tester for proof if not timing your typical tasks.

You can mix and match drives, just remember the slower or lower capacity drive will bottleneck the performance and/or capacity of the array.

RAID5 is my favourite array, however this requires 3 drives.

RAID1 will allow improved read performance, but lower write performance.

Thanks for the help guys what kind of benefits would I see with a raid 0?

Hi Wikosiko, I agree with some of the comments where they will work fine if you use both 1TB HDD for RAID 0 configuration. The sizes must be same, if not you will lose the extra capacity of the bigger HDD. As to my knowledge, two equivalent drives (same brand, same specification) will deliver better performance compare to the former build. However, if you care about data loss when drive failure, maybe raid 1 mirror is more suitable. Because when one drive failure, you still have another drive to function. But if talking about the speed, raid 0 is faster than raid 1.

Maybe you can refer to this link to have a review on what is the advantages of RAID level.

Hope it helps.

Thanks everyone seeing as the Raid will only be for game, and movies nothing else the ssd will hold the rest considering it's a 250g, I'm not too fussed about data loss. One drive is probably on its last year whilst the other might have 5+ years. I'll make sure to test the older drive first make sure theres no bad sectors ect.

And yeah can only try it but if all goes well I'll at least get a bit more speed hehe.
