So I have a friend (Well, more like acquaintance) who is interesting in buying my 7970  (I now have a 780 ti and have no use for it) but the thing is it is defective. Thec ard runs hella hot because both fans are busted and the replacements cost like $50 each so it is easier to just RMA. He is willing to pay $115 for the card as is, no strings attached. Is it worth selling my 7970 that I am not using for $115 instead of paying $50 in shipping to RMA it and have a backup card?

I would say sell it and let him fix the fans. Or you could RMA it, and charge him $50, but the card will be 100% working. I don't think there is really a need to have a "backup" card.

Yeah he was going to pay $165 then since I have to talk to him later and didn't want him to be mad I told him that he would probably have to RMA and the shipping costs around $50

spend the 50bucks and sell it. list that it has a brand new heatsink/fans and sell it for 200.00$

1) I don't want to find a buyer, and pay for shipping and all that tedious stuff

2) I just spent $900 on a GPU + I am 15 means I won't have $50 to RMA for quite a while xD

You spent $900 on a 780Ti?! whaaa?

If you're selling it to him AS IS then by all means go ahead. If you don't have the time or money to spend on it then he can get an aftermarket cooler installed or RMA it himself.

Shipping and taxes are a thing, and it cost $800 because 780 tis are expensive in Canada.

lol where are you? Here in Calgary the 780 Ti's cost 750-850 and you can walk to the store and buy it, no shipping necessary.

The extra cost of the Ti doesn't justify the performance increase over the regular 780 IMO

I live in a small city where there are only like 4 computer stores, they are all self owned and operated so they don't carry anything better than 770s on hand.

As for not worth the increase, my Skyrim runs at like 45 fps average on my 780 ti up from 20 on my 7970, Far Cry 3 which I have gotten into recently runs at like 65 with 4xMSAA, and there are other examples of games I play that run at like just above or at 60 FPS, so a 780 wouldn't be adequate for my graphics whore needs. I also have no other hobbies, so all of my income is expendable. I am now starting to save for my next rig, this was basically my last big purchase for this rig and I am hoping it will keep up decently for the next 3 years until I get a new PC. It also didn't make sense to go from a 7970 to a 780 since the performance gap isn't large enough to justify the $500 in the first place.

With my math it went like this. Amazon.ca charged $800 for the graphics card, free shipping. The taxes in BC are %12 on the GPU since it takes both PST and GST. 800x0.12+800 = 896, I wanted it fast so I payed $20 for 1 day shipping (I was excited okay?!) so 896+20= 916. My 780 ti cost $916 after all was said and done.
