Currently I have the Logitech G35 headset, and it's alright, but the bass isn't as powerful as I'd like it, and the sound clarity isn't outstanding. And yeah, since it's usb, I haven't gotten a sound card

I generally listen to ALOT of music, and having the included mic is quite handy for chatting on Skype, and talking on Teamspeak... but mic quality doesn't matter a WHOLE lot.

So basically, I was wondering if my music listening experience would improve by purchasing different headphones, and getting a sound card...

My budget is around $300, and I won't need another mic as I have an extra external one.

any recommendations?

so would my sound quality be better with the akg k550 even if i didnt have a sound card?

The quality improvement comes with increased volume levels, lower output impedance, and less noise as opposed to onboard, but the headphones themselves will make a MUCH bigger difference.  However, you have a $300 budget, so Tower's reccomendation of a FiiO E10 is perfect since it leaves you $220 for the headphones.  You'll have a lot of good choices in that range like the Sennheiser HD558s, the Audio Technica ATH-M50s, AKG K240s and MkII, and the Beyerdynamic DT770 and 990 pros.

I instructed a friend to buy a pair of AKG K240s when they were on sale during christmas.  He still refers to them as the "best thing he ever spent money on", and I'm pretty sure he just plugs them into his onboard.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."
