Problem with multiple monitors

I have two monitors, one 1080p and an old one 1280x1024 which i use for skype / spotify etc, and it has been great, but now when i turn off and then on my main display, every window goes to the old one for a second (including the date and time on the task bar) then everything goes back to the 1080p monitor, including skype and spotify, so then i have to move them back to the old display and resize it.

 

This have been happening since i changed the displays cables (used to be DVI for the 1080p and VGA with a VGA-DVI adapter to the 1024), now i'm using a HDMI with adapter to mini-HDMI and a DVI to the old one.
