So, I'm looking at upgrades for a slightly beefier cpu and mobo. I'm looking at going from:

Motherboard: Asus A85-V Pro fm2

CPU: AMD A10-5700 apu 3.4ghz (3.5) turbo

To this:

Gigabyte GA-297MX-Gaming 5

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128716

Intel Core I5-4430 Haswell Quad-Core 3.0Ghz

Cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116895

Two concerns

1. Will I notice an increase im performance between those processors in gaming and IT school applications? (No idea what kind, maybe software engineering?)

2. Will that intel CPU work out of the box in the Z97 motherboard? Have heard that the z97's have trouble with older haswell chips

My goal is to keep the motherboard and cpu price as close to under 300 as possible, so that I can also afford a windows license. Questions? Recommendations?

No need getting a z97 board, just get a b85 board or something, you will probably never need to upgrade from that i5 until a new socket is out it should last you a good few years!!!

Well, I was thinking of broadwell if it turns out to be like, mega crazy good or something. So z87 instead?

I cant imagine it will be that amazing, if you are getting a z97 board why not spend a tiny bit more and get a 4670k/4790k?

Its your choice I just find it hard to spend tons on motherboard you dont and might not need

I am sure that a 4430 will still be good even with broadwell around (I doubt its going to be THAT much faster) and it will certainly be good enough for 95$ of most software/games

Thats a good point. Will I notice that much of a difference between the 4430 over this fm2 cpu? This one is .5 ghz faster, but I think is still weaker? No idea to be honest, don't know what I was thinking getting AMD in the first place.

Yeah the i5 is much faster, clock speed is completely irrelevant, the architecture intel uses makes each core MUCH faster than any AMD core. Since most programs and games are NOT designed for multi-threaded processors, and normally only 1 or 2, the i5 should be much faster  in 90% of things

the APUs are great for lost cost basic systems but do not scale well at higher ends

So I'm sold then, this thing already loads things on the SSD pretty fast, but opening zilla or trying to use the filters on newegg is sloooooow. I wouldn't think its my 10mbps connection either.
