I have never played an MMO, but I am thinking about it. I have friends that play LoL. I have been looking into GW2 but I am not sure. I really enjoyed Skyrim. I play BF3 alot. I also really like TW series and many other strategy games. Any thoughts.

Well first of all LoL isn't a mmo :P but I really enjoy mmo's personally. GW2 is a pretty fun game and would last someone that isn't into mmo's for awhile but to be honest the producers still think the game is worth 40$ when it isn't haha It literally has barely any end game content which is an important part for alot of gamers. I would suggest checking out a mmo called Rift, it is currently free to play up until level 20, which is more than enough to tell if you would like it or not and on june 12 the whole game is going free to play.

Yeah, LoL isn't an MMO, at all. There are three MMOs you should absolutely play, though.

1: World of Warcraft. This is a piece of gaming history and as such, should be experienced. I'd make the same argument for EQ, but I think it's too old to be enjoyable to a newcomer by this point.

2: Planetside...2. Unfortunately you've missed the boat on being able to experience one of the most mind-blowing moments of comprehension in gaming, which was when you finally saw the forest for the trees while two armies clashed in the original Planetside, but it's sequel still provides a cheap imitation, sort of.

3: Eve Online. This is possibly the most important one, because it shows you what's still left to accomplish in gaming. If you ever think it's all been done and there can't be many more new ideas left, you only need look to this game to see the immensity of what's left to explore. Here's a mere taster, but it only scratches the surface. It's similar to the Planetside thing, in so far as a single moment of comprehension - when it hits you - will permanently change your perspective of gaming.

I played WoW for years, starting of in vanilla and coming back for each expansion up until Wrath. Looking back it was it was the best gaming experience of my life, nothing has matched the feeling of a full raid taking down Thaddeus after weeks and weeks of trying.

I would recommend that everyone at least tries WoW, if you haven't played an mmo then it will be an experience like no other.

Problem is years have passed and the population of wow changed, these days you wont get that many friendly replies when leveling up from people because most of them are using herlioms and powerleveling an alt and just don't care :/. But i agree WoW is one of the best games that happened in 2000-2010

There is no doubt the glory days of WoW are well and truly gone. Its not something I'll ever go back to now but for someone who is curious about mmo's then its a decent place to start IMO (on the basis it has a free trial) rather than forking out for GW2 and not liking it.

I suppose by that rational SWTOR would be a decent starting point too.

Don't play an MMO. You will jump into a world that you will regret doing after a number of years.

Dont play an MMO. You will jump into a world of numbers you will regret doing after years of no-life.

Yep, i agree... i was hooked myself for 3 years. COOP games are better than MMOs.

It's up to you actually. Do you want a life of being a no life as mentioned above since it'll suck up a lot of your time. Or do you want to have a life and enjoy it. I'd suggest you stick away from MMOs if you don't have a lot of time to spare

Just to help you guys out abit, i believe the term you're looking for specifically is MMORPG, LoL is an MMORTS/MOBA.

And no, personally after several years of playing MMOs i find that there is no point in playing them really, you start the game with a aim to be.. well equipped, accomplished. But once you stop playing you really start thinking and you will realise that you've wasted quite alot of time accomplishing nothing.

LoL is ARTS and definitely not a Massively multiplayer online real time strategy...

But i agree after i stopped playing i realized the gear and stuff was useless but still the biggest thing that no other games have is the social aspect and the community ( which is gone now) .

Wait, so you're saying my tier 7 shoulders I had to roll 12 times for weren't worth it...?

Dammit!

If you loved every moment of raiding then it was worth it ;)

Hahaha, that's funny man!

I have to say, if you're having fun, it was worth the time. It's just important to know your limits. I played WoW for 5 years. I had a good time playing it but now I'm done with the game and I will most likely never play it again. I did get a bit too addicted and it does take a lot of time and effort. Was it worth the time? Probably not. Did I have a good time? Ooh yes I did. I remember competing for Realm First Tribute to Insanity. The adrenaline rush I got when we actually got it was Insane, never I have experienced anything similar in my gaming 'career'.

Imho, if you wanna play, give it a shot, just know your limits and don't let it control your life as it does for some people. If you like it, good, if you don't like it, well at least you tried and there's many other games to play :)

If you want to give wow a go without lining blizzards pockets, google molten wow, really good private server with a huge player base.

MMO is Massively Multiplayer...LoL just about qualifies as regular multiplayer. An MMORTS would be taking something like Warhammer 40000, Dawn of War, except with each player controlling a single squad and having 100 players on each side, with maps being a hell of a lot bigger.

That said, it's interesting to try and imagine what an "MMOBA" would look like, with hundreds of players all having their own heroes in a persistent landscape...

I have played many MMO's and depending on what type of game play you enjoy depends on the game you should try out.  if you can try out the game for free before putting any money down then do it, otherwise its pot luck if you will enjoy it or not.

you should try an old school MMORPG, the very best of its kind, the almighty

"Ragnarok Online"

- 12 years rocking........

- HUGE map, over 30 cities.

this was a nice game to me, I still like the graphics style!

Looking around,

bla bla bla this, meh that!
