Watercooling question

So for my closed loop can I delid my cpu and then just place my cpu block on top of the diode instead of putting the metal back on the cpu??? Not sure about this as someone in work told me I could but wanted more answers

Yes... that's what people do when they delid their cpu's...

 

You might need to mess with the mounting hardware for your water cooler though, it's meant for the height of a cpu with the lid on it.

Well iv delidded it just really wanted to be careful with it but will give it a go

See what you meant about messing around with it I had to remove the bracket from the board that holds down the cpu then took a while trying to keep the cpu in place whole putting the block back on

Would be interesting to see your results.  I know others have used 1mm plastic washers on each side of the mobo after delidding to make up the IHS space.

as i was doing it the PCB with the diode kept falling out of the socket and i was thinking crap iv bent the pins iv bent the pins but i evntually got it on and cooled my CPU down more and was able to achive 4.7GHZ

Well done. How did you make up the space where the ihs used to be?

I just replaced it on and tightened my block back on was difficult as my backplate for the block kept falling out so I had to do it one handed
