Hi!

Just a simple quick short thing i need you to help me with.

I got a full PC part list with monitor and such but the last problem i've come across is the storage. Now what i chose in the beginning was Intel SSD 80GB (OS/Program) + WD Blue (Games) + WD Black (Video Recording/Documents/Movies, etc). Now i'm not sure if that's a good way to put it together, because i don't have any experience with storages, especially not WD Hard Drives, but i've heard alot of good things about them.

The main thing is that i'm not sure which WD storage should i use on what, is the Black really necessary for 1080p 30fps or will the Blue deliver enough write speed to record that?

Well if anyone could give me tips/suggestions of other HDD's that would be awesome, i just can't find information enough about WD Blue n Black, especially about the write speeds.

But if someone can help me out that'll be great and i will appreciate any help given on this topic.

If you can spend time helping me i will GREATLY appreciate that.

The blue is fine for that. For around the same price, you should be able to find the barracuda which is better. The black isn't worth the extra money for a bit of performance but instead only if you need the longer warranty.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

For the HDD just get a Seagate Barracuda or whatever WD is cheaper than it. Keep your most important games and programs on the SSD.

I would also look at getting a bigger SSD. 80GB will go very quickly and you will not be able to fit much on there.

Well for space, that is up to. It all depends on how much data you have. I would say 1TB each is more than enough for each. A WD Black or Blue or Segate Baracuda are great choices. For the SSD one of the best cost/GB available is the Samsung 840 Evo. If you have any questions about a drive in particular, you could always just post a link and one of the members will give your their opinion.

Well i dont know the Write speed of the WD Black and Seagate Barracuda..

But i'd get them if they're fast enough for 1080p 30fps but anyways i decided to get the Samsung EVO 840 120GB SSD (https://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=791617)

Great SSD, I have one in my build and I have been very happy with it.

I'd dump the blue, stick with the black and use the funds to bulk up the SSD. That give the best of all worlds: fast o/s and apps and fast storage.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

Hi Nadbuddy.

I have attached a link to the WD Blue and WD black spec sheets.

WD Blue : http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-771436.pdf .

WD Black : http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-771434.pdf .

Comparison between WD Blue and WD Black (1TB, RPM 7200, 64 MB caches), both transfer rates (maximum) from buffer to host are 6 GB/s and from host to/from the drive (sustained) are 150MB/s . Both are using SATA 3 (6Gb/s). The difference between both drives are WD Blue attached with a 2-year limited warranty but WD Black attach with a 5-year limited warranty. Besides that, WD Black is equipped with

1) Vibration Control Technology.

2) High Resolution Controller.

3) NoTouch Ramp Load Technology.

4) Corruption Protection Technology.

In summary, WD Blue has solid performance and reliability for everyday computing, but WD Black has maximum performance for power computing like game PCs.

Hope this helps!

Just get a WD caviar green 2tb.

It's cheaper than a WD blue or black.

http://www.amazon.com/WD-Green-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B008YAHW6I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405332007&sr=1-1&keywords=caviar+green+2tb

You can use obs to record video, it compresses it for you so the speed of the drive doesn't really matter too much. https://obsproject.com/

It works for me.
