I have been trying to overclock my processor after the installation of my water cooling loop and for some reason the stability is very shaky. If i try for a 4.5GHz clock rate I have the crank the voltage up to 1.3 to get it to remain stable even for a few minutes. Even if i lower both the clock rate and the voltage the overclock doesn't remain stable for very long. Any advice on settings to change in the BIOS or anything else is appreciated.

Right now im running an OC @ 4.0 and its seems stable so far into it and its only at 1.2V.

I could hit 4.5 on air but it was at 1.3V and was getting close to T-Junction so i didn't run it that hot and turned everything down. I figured once it was underwater i'd be able to hit 4.5 and the temps not be a problem.

@TheRealSon

if that is the best stable (and assuming you are using a recent overclocking guide),

then your CPU is not a silicone lottery winner. for testing and if you have adequate

cooling, you could always try 1.45v. what kind of LLC control are you using?

on stock multiplier and adjusting vCore to 1.45, what is your temperature?

Stabilizing it takes hours.. even days.

Start from there with 4.0. Then try 4.1ghz with the same voltage. If it's not stable bump up the voltage by .1mv(1.21v) and so on...

I suggest 1 take of cinebench every time you change settings and then 10 minutes of prime95.

When you have a temperature and clock that you are comfortable with it,start p95 for at least 6-24 hours.

@airdeano

ROG has a guide for the i5-3570k that I'm consulting.

http://rog.asus.com/184142012/maximus-motherboards/guide-overclocking-the-core-i5-3570k-to-4-5ghz-on-the-maximus-v-gene/

I'm using the Extreme LLC setting & I'm still Stress testing at 4GHz and 1.2V and im not seeing above 68C on the processor.

Thanks for the advice everyone. For whatever reason anyting over 4.3GHz just isn't stable with my CPU but 4.3 runs as low as 1.2V now and probably will run lower.

What cooler are you using btw?

@DildorTheDecent

 Heatkiller Rev 3.0

Cleaned it recently? Or maybe your chip just isn't the best there is.

Its brand new and was clean when i put it in a few days ago. Temps aren't the issue, i do not see 70C, it's just stability.

Could just be a bad CPU then. I get 4.8GHz at 1.35V. 24/7 stable as well.
