I have saved about £420 and i am thinking about upgrading my GPU. I bought a pre-built HP PC in September and i upgraded the GPU and the PSU because the GPU was a 620. I was also thinking about upgrading my case so i don't know whether to spend all my money on a new GPU and PSU or  get a cheaper GPU and a new case.

My specs: Processor - Intel core i7 3770 3.4GHz 4 core

                 PSU - Corsair CX500M

                 GPU - Asus GTX 650 Ti BOOST

                 Storage - 1TB

                 RAM - 1x8GB

                 Motherboard - H-Joshua-H61-uATX

What case do you have?

From what shop are you buying?

1.) Get a new case!

Usually prebuilt PCs ,like the one you have, have bad air flow and only few fan mounts. You could overheat your new hardware easily, so do that first. It doesn't have to be super expensive, but has to have decent airflow.
My buddy did that once, upgraded the GPU and it fried after a couple of weaks. It does not have to happen, but it can.

2.) Your PSU will be fine for most GPUs, unless you crossfire. I mean I would consider it a close call for a 290 or something like that, but it might even be possible. A 280 or 280, or a 770 will probably be fine.

3.) What do you want to be able to do with your GPU? 1080p gaming? Do you really want ULTRA settings?

PC: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 || Noctua NH-U12S SE2 || 32GB DDR5 6000 CL32  ||
|| Powercolor RX 9070 Reaper || Asus B650E-I
  || WD 850X 2TB ||  Corsair SF600 || Intertech IM 1 |||
Peripherals: Sennheiser PC  360 G4ME || AOC CQ27G2U || Viewsonic PX701HD || Keychron V1 || Logitech G303 Shroud Edition||| Laptop: XPS 13 2in1 7390 || Steam Deck 256 GB (64GB Version) ||| Cameras: Fujifilm XH-1 || Fujifilm X100T

I think i will get a new case. The gtx770 looks good for the price but i was thinking about going for gtx 780. The 280x and the 290 look good but i think the 770 and 780 outperform thems in the proce range.

What do you wanna do with your pc?

Probably gaming?

If yes, get a new case, like a bitfenix shinoby or something in that price range and an aftermarket r9 280x.

Amd beats the crap out of nvidia in price/performance.

Yea i want to game with my PC. I will get a new case so that airflow is a lot better. So a r9 280x is better than than a gtx 770 and what about a r9 290.

I think 770 is a tiny bit faster but a lot more expensive.

290 beats both easily but consumes a lot of power (not sure i your 500w is enough in that case) and puts out a TON of heat, so you need really good airflow. Also: NEVER but the reference design.

I have been looking at some benchmarks on the cards, the 280x and 770 are very similar in performance but the 780 and 290 out perform them a lot. AMD is better in price to performance but is the 290 worth the extra £50 for the heat. (Yea i kinda knew i would have to get a new PSU)
