Hey guys !

I just wanted to know about some of your thoughts on DDR4 (let's ignore its cost for a moment), due to Linus' new Video on DDR4 memory on his Techquickie channel.

I am just going to quote here:" [...] capable of 512GB of memory [...]", as I personally heard this, I was quite surprised. If you could store up to 512 GB of data in a single module, will "normal" storage get less relevant ?

I can personally say, my boot drive isn't even 500 gigs big so, what opportunites will be created through DDR4 and how do you think it will or should be used ?

Thank you for your time in advance and I hope you have fun !

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that when your PC is powered off, all of the data on your ram is lost. That would be rather inconvenient if you wanted to use ram as permanent storage.

CPU: i9-13900k MOBO: Asus Strix Z790-E RAM: 64GB GSkill  CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i

GPU: Asus Strix RTX-4090 Case: Fractal Torrent PSU: Corsair HX-1000i Storage: 2TB Samsung 990 Pro

Sorry for the inconvinience, of course the temp. storaged data is lost, but think about a little battery powering your efficient modules until you restart your computer; you could use HDD's as a hard backup but leave your entire system in your RAM.

But these are just some crazy thoughts of mine, so I would be glad if someone could give me a hint.

RAM isn't permanent with a reason.. It's RAM..

What are the speeds these are able to achieve? Sorry didnt see the video and have to wait till i get home.. but with 512 gb memory if it runs at the same significant increase as the storage integrated graphics will become much more realistic for full time gaming instead of getting a gpu...
