Just popping in to make my first official post. Quite happy to have snagged the tag Sephiroth, as you can probably tell FFVII is my favorite game ever, and if it is ever remade (and done well) I will probably have a search party sent after me thinking I died, only to find me on a 100+ hour binge of the game. As for me, I'm a student finishing up at Umass, hopefully I'll have either a teaching position come graduation. I'm currently using the first computer I've ever owned, a Dell Studio 1558 with the first gen Core i7 mobile quad core processor (yeah, I thought I was actually gonna do stuff with my life when I went to college. Ended up switching from physics to history because of a dislike of math). While it still works fairly solidly, it does tend to get very hot when browsing multiple tabs (I think I've got some 30+ open currently) and it is difficult to multitask. I would like to be able to do some gaming while ideally streaming and even listening to music, however at the current time I am only able to do one. So, I've fixed that, and with the part-time job I've held for the past 6-7 years, I've been able to save up enough money and finally ordered a beast of a computer from Origin. It was about a month ago that I started doing some serious research into what I wanted for it, and that's what led me to discover Linus's channel etc... I've always enjoyed computers, but often found the tech specs rather daunting to understand and with how well linus and the rest of you lot have been able to clear it up for me, I decided I'd join the forums to be able to more properly show my gratitude and to be able to continue to bug y'all in the future :D

So what computer did you end up ordering from Origin anyways?

P.S.

It would've been awesome if he said Hai guys, I'm on LTT forums. Linus still hasn't let up on Austin yet.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

Hai dere! Welcome to the place where you spend all of your life. If you haven't read the CoC read it [post=http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/95599-linus-tech-tips-forum-code-of-conduct/?p=1279858]Here! Also what are the specs of the PC you ordered? (if its not too much trouble)

EDIT: make sure to follow your own topics and quote people.

Welcome to the forums!

Don't forget to read the CoC here!

How are you embedding the link in the word? I know how to do it in HTML but not here since this forum doesn't allow HTML tags in posts.

Thanks for the heads up and the replies!

I purchased a Genesis system from Origin PC. The specs of the system that I ordered are from memory at the moment, so I hope I don't miss anything

CPU: Intel 4790K 4.0 GHz (4.4 Turbo)

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X G1 Gaming Black

GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 4GB (yes, I plan on upgrading this when I get an actual job lol)

RAM: 16GB Corsair Dominator 1866

Powersupply: Corsair AX1500i

Custom Liquid Cooling

SDD: 2 Intel 730 240GB  in RAID 0

HDD: I didn't actually purchase these from Origin as they were cheaper to go through amazon/newegg, but I have 1 1TB Velociraptor for some of my larger programs that I won't use as intensively (trying to keep the OS Disks clean, we'll see how long that happens lol) and I've 2 WD Reds (4TB) which I plan adding in RAID 1 for backup

My mouse is a Feenix Nascita, and I'm currently looking for suitable monitors/waiting for the ROG Swift to be released

Screw the PC master race.

Now I need to go hide before I get shot.

It ended up setting be back ~3500 USD, and that was before the extra storage I got on my own. With the monitor(s) I'd expect it to go back around $4200. But I plan on basically having this case for the rest of my life (providing it doesn't die in a fire or get seized by the rapture or something). I'm not super duper tech savvy, in that I wouldn't trust myself to build a PC, so to have a company which says it will offer lifetime support and I'll only have to purchase the major parts for serious upgrades, it was something which seemed like a worthwhile investment. I can install RAM and other simple things, but when it gets to serious meddling around I'm probably less useful than the goat from the simulator

Sephiroth Off Topic posts don't go toward your post count BTW.

That's fine lol. I don't expect to be the one with the biggest post count anyways. TBH, this is the first forum I've joined, ever. All other things, reddit, imgur, etc... I just sorta browse and keep to myself. However this one seemed very worth while to join :D

Thats kind of a lot money for those specs even with the custom liquid cooling loop.

Wow that's kinda expensive, when you said join the master race you really meant it with a rig that expensive. At this point you might've wanted to consider just building the thing yourself from the ground up and save some money.
