So this started the day before yesterday, out of the blue !

So i am using a WD 1TB HDD Caviar Blue (i put the SSD on my brother's system because i will be getting a new bigger one for my system).

But this thing is starting to annoy me, for no apparent reason the HDD stays 100% active even without any read or write activity, during that period the PC is unusable !! It seems to start and stop ramdomly throughout the day !

What i have done:

CHKDSK - no problems found.

Disabled superfetch and windows explorer on services.msc - the problem persists (source:http://Capturadetela2014-07-09084726_zpsd141212

If you have moved your PC recently check for a loose cable. Re-installing windows probably wont don anything I had this probblem and it was just a loose cable.

I also unnistalled every third party anti-virus and anti-malware software because i read somewhere that they might interfere with HDD usage even when not scanning, and in matter of fact MalwareBytes when scanning the HDD usage would go up to 100% and during all that time the PC would stay unusable until i cancelled the scan, only then it the usage would go down,

The only anti-virus software i'm using now is windows defender...

Get a proper anti-virus software (I use "Avast!" free version), and run a full system scan

Hey I was having a similar issue to this before, it turned out to be the network driver, i uninstalled it used ccleaner and reinstall and all was fine. Try reinstalling your drivers for the computer.

Hey I was having a similar issue to this before, it turned out to be the network driver, i uninstalled it used ccleaner and reinstall and all was fine. Try reinstalling your drivers for the computer.

Well in the meanwhile i was basically forced to format the PC... When i tried to install Avast again (i had it before and unnistalled it when checking for compatibility issues) it said that the PC needed to reboot, and so i did it ... and it never booted to windows again... it was just taking too much time trying to boot into desktop and a blue screen appeared (without any text), and just stood there indefinitely... So i decided to format it back to windows 7 !!
