I am planning on building a new PC, and I wondered if what I am planning to buy is smart, or if there are some different choises anyone else would make. My budget cant go much higher than it already is.

- Intel Core i7-4790K

- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB PhysX GHZ Edition

- MSI Z97 GAMING 7

- Corsair RM850

- Corsair Graphite 760T Midi Tower

- Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4GB 1866MHz

- Intel 730 SSD 240GB

- Seagate Barracuda 4TB

Will appriciate all help, thanks. :)

Looks good to me.  That Intel SSD seems like a waste of money though.  I'd go with something cheaper like the SP920 from ADATA

Intel ssds have a high reliability rate .

They do, but they're also ridiculously priced.  Besides, unless you don't back up your data, it's too much to spend.

850 PSU is overkill....650 would be fine.

Odds are you don't need 4tb of storage either...

If you did, you would probably already have a NAS with more slightly smaller drives and RAID 5 or 6 to allow fault tolerance.

Other than that, it's a very solid and respectful build.  Can't wait to see the build log!

It is a horrible overkill. Use? Location? Exact budget?

The use will be for gaming and some video editing. My bugdet is around 2700$. But since I live in Norway, I need to pay 25% of the price of the equipment to get it though customs, unless I buy it from a online store based in Norway, where it is already paid.

Alright, are you "forcing" any of the parts there? (something you like very much)

Don't get the Corsair RM psu. If you can get a EVGA Supernova G2 750W then go for that instead.

Swap the Ram for 2 x 8GB instead of 4 x 4GB.

Samsung Evo or Crucial MX100 SSD if they are cheaper.

1. Reasons?

2. Reasons? He rather won't upgrade to 32GB...

Better internals and a better oem with the EVGA.

I haven't got a direct reference. It is just what I have read over the years (I might be wrong)

It is usually cheaper as well (At least in UK) to buy 2 x 8GB rather than 4 x 4GB of the same Ram.

They are both good PSUs, don't post anything unless you're sure about it. And years you say? RM are available since 9 months...

In most places price is the same.

That is where you are wrong. The Corsair RM is very average compared to the EVGA.

Corsair psu is made by CWT or Chicony power, depending on which wattage you go for. They are both 'Average' oem's.

EVGA is made by Superflower, who are one of the top oem's along with the likes of Seasonic, Enermax and Delta,

Read this to see how good (Bad) the RM psu is : http://www.overclock.net/t/1455892/why-you-might-not-want-to-buy-a-corsair-rm-psu

1. Why?

2. Proofs?

2.  Got a reliable reference for that?

I've never heard of that.

PSU:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=380

I have not found any reviews on the currently shipping model of RM850. The original one was quickly discontinued because of build quality issues.

Memory:

Logic suggests that all else being equal it is better to allow for upgrade potential. Thus 2 larger capacity modules makes more sense than filling all memory slots to reach the same capacity.

Logic also suggests that the additional load generated by two modules may cause instability on lower-end motherboards. It certainly will put a touch more wear on the controller, but that should not be an issue.

The quoted section of the first answer in http://superuser.com/questions/110031/is-it-better-to-have-four-times-2-gb-or-two-times-4-gb-of-ram may be of interest. And if one really wants confirmation a study of the DDR3 specification might provide it.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
