Hi,

My wired USB mouse keeps freezing every few seconds. Regardless of what I'm doing, it will freeze every 10-15 seconds for a period of time of anywhere from half a second or so to ~10 seconds. I've tried this in multiple USB ports and I've gone through all of the settings to disable the powering down of the USB, etc. I've replugged the mouse and restarted my PC more times than I care to count over the last week. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers automatically and manually a silly amount of times. This has also happened with two mice (Razer Deathadder 3.5G, Logitech M90) in two days, except one of them now isn't even being recognised by Windows anymore. I tried to system restore, but the furthest back I could restore to was about two hours after the problem started occurring.

The mice both work perfectly fine in another PC, which means it's most likely some sort of drivers problem or maybe a USB port problem. However, the keyboard I use is also plugged into the same set of ports and hasn't frozen or stopped working at all.

I don't have a PS/2 mouse to test, as this has been recommended before. I've tried everything in the first ten pages of Google and I've had no success whatsoever.

This afternoon, I was playing Call of Duty 4 and the mouse froze again. However, it wouldn't unfreeze and no amount of unplugging/replugging would get it to work again. I then got a BSOD with some sort of USB_DRIVERS error. I didn't have time to get a picture or anything.

Any help would be great, as this is unbelievably frustrating and has prevented me from, to an extent, enjoying the last week.

Thanks, Rhys.

I have had a similar problem with a bad cable.

Is yours replacable, like one of thise wired mice with a USB-mini plug?

I have also gotten BSODs with the same error definition because of a short circuit. (Long story short - don't power your servomotors over USB ports)

it could be your PC USB ports are failing

download the USB port drivers from your mobo website

I've updated the USB port drivers, and it's happening with two mice so I wouldn't have thought it was a faulty cable.

I found out that it started the day before I thought it started, and uninstalled the last program (Defy Gravity Extended, some Steam game). Instant fix. 4 hours or so with no freezing.

Oh, except for when it started happening again about ten minutes ago. Freezing every couple of minutes or so.

It's still happening, and it's getting worse.

It's not actually just freezing; it's disconnecting and reconnecting.

time to find a good old PS2 mouse
