Hello!

I would really appreciate some help for a purchasing a good router. Let me tell you about how we use a router so it would help understanding our needs.

I live in a family and at any time, there are 10 wifi devices (phones, laptops, tablets) connected to the router. None of the devices use wireless AC. There is one computer used for gaming which is connected directly to it via an ethernet cable. In addition, there is a HDD (USB 3.0) connected to the router.  I do plan on picking up a shield a few months later so gamestream support (even if not officially recognized by Nvidia) would be nice.

Our internet plan is a 8Mbps one and I don't see this increasing in the near future.

Optional: easy to use software with ability to flash custom and feature adding firmwares like Open WRT.

My budget for a router is a 100$ and so far, I was eyeballing the Asus RT-N65U. Can you please provide me with feedback about my choice along with your own recommendations based on my use case scenario.

Thanks a ton in advance!

-Hulk

"(even if not officially recognized by Nvidia)"

 shield is supported my nvidia

its made by them!

did u mean something else ?

www.smallnetbuilder.com has a huge list of routers with very in depth review

with shield people recommend AC  even though i find no issues at all streaming via slow N router (steam streaming)

anyways i recommend shibby tomato over all 3rd party firmwares

I meant if the router is not branded as 'Gamestream' certified by Nvidia :P I guess I should have been a bit more clear. I'm looking at that website now. It looks quite promising! :) Thanks!

Edit: After reading some of their articles, I'm going with the N56U. Thanks!
