4690k vs 4790k

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

Well yeah I don't do that much, as previously mentioned only windows movie make pretty much. But how long do you think it will be untill games start using more than like 2 threads?

Well some games already use 4. For gaming only the i7 is overkill though, it doesn't make sense over the i5. I was considering video editing, but movie maker doesn't count ^^ you should be good to go with the i5 UNLESS you plan on streaming on twitch: in that case the extra cpu threads are very valuable.

Is it worth the extra $100 to buy the new i7 over the i5? I plan on overclocking the shit out of both of them. I mostly use my computer for games, but recently I have gotten in to making youtube videos, so I do some light video editing. I'm going to pair the processor I choose up with 16 gigs of DDR3-1866 and a 7970 ghz edition.

For editing go with 4970k, unless light editing means like Windows movie maker, then go with 4690k. :)

I think it's worth it, especially if you do video editing. It's sort of futureproofing you for a bit, as it can handle as many threads as an 8 core cpu even if less efficiently and since it's clocked higher at stock, it gives you a higher base from which to overclock.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

well yeah, so far it's basically Windows moviemaker :P (you can do surprisingly much with that software though)

For moviemaker i5 is enough, because it ain't that demanding, but if you have money, go with i7, sure it will make a difference in rendering times :)
