Intel Pentium G3220/160 dollar upgrade.

So, I have a little money left over for a cpu/motherboard/ram upgrade and i'm looking at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116950 - Intel Pentium G3220

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313265 - 4gb of ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138394Biostar Hi-Fi H81S2

Right now i'm using a am3 socket/ AMD Athlon II x2 215@2.7ghz and 4gb of ddr2, was wondering if this is the best bang for my buck for 160 with shipping/taxs or is there anything better i can do... and no i do not have a micro center around me to get even cheaper cpus.

Oh and I'm using a 6670 as my gpu right now.

Get some RAM 2nd hand. ~20 USD

140 for motherboard and CPU won't give you that many options. Maybe a H81 board and a mediocre i3, which tbh will be only a moderate upgrade from your current setup.

You could again look at 2nd hand parts but other than that it's not worth it imo.

who cares...

For video editing you really want that extra RAM.

id had all your components and yeah bf series requires 3+ cores so id say try and find a second hand phenom2 x4 IF your board supports it then retest, if it still performs like pants then you'll be gpu limtied so youd want a better gpu. but try the quad core first.

2ghz 6670 1080p

check outmy gelleries and click for a larger image for more details of what you can expect (bf4 btw and usually declocked because ti made NO difference i had tons of overhead) heres some i benched earlier. screw it i cant find whats wrong with the spoiler.

So, I have a little money left over for a cpu/motherboard/ram upgrade and i'm looking at

Oh and I'm using a 6670 as my gpu right now.

You could probably get away with like a 6 core phenom, the pentium on some kind of x97 board will be "future proofer" or more upgradable though.

I think this will be your best bet:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9mRDkL

Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9mRDkL/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($99.99 @ Micro Center) <-- In-store Microcenter, or Staples.com Price Match.  Or get the Pentium.

Motherboard: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($71.99 @ Amazon)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($39.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $211.97

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Get a Z87/97 Motherboard, this way you are not restricting yourself to locked CPUs, and it gives you a much better upgrade path for the future.  The processor you choose, either the Pentium or the i3 is going to be a temporary solution to be later upgraded as funds become available.  Pair it with the least expensive 1x4GB Stick of RAM that you can find, and you are good to go.  Realistically, you need $200 to get this accomplished, but you will be much happier with the end result.  Having a designed upgrade path for the future is well worth the investment now.  Spending an extra $25 on a motherboard so that you wont have to spend another $80 later is going to be your best option for now and the future.

In order to get Microcenter prices through Staples.com, you will have to either call Staples up, or Live Chat with someone on their website.  Ask for the price match, and show them the link to the in-store price of the processor you want to buy.

They will ship it to you, it will cost more than the advertised price, but it is still a heck of a lot less expensive than buying it anywhere else, just takes a little bit of effort.
