Hi,

My SSD is stuck at 100% usage with no apparent cause in task manager. I have tried at fresh install of windows 8 and the first answer in this. Still no luck. The PC is pretty much unusable so I cannot screenshot the task manager :(.

Could you be more specific on what components your computer has? Everything is important, especially type and amount of ram. Do you have a hdd for files? Try taking a picture of your task manager with a camera. When the ssd is stuck at 100%, do you notice heavy slowdowns?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

As you can see very small amounts of data transfer for high usage. I have 8GB of RAM and 2 other harddrives that are not connected at the moment.

@Sauron

I should also add that the issue started last night when explorer.exe would stop responding for 5 minutes at a time. I though a "quick" (took all night) fresh install might fix the problem, but it didn't.

Make sure you are showing the processes of all users, otherwise you're missing some.

Windows updates have taken over my PC, but I'll have a look at that once they've done. DONE

When Disk usage dips the whole PC freezes making anything clicked on during that time stop responding

How do I show processes from all users. There is only 1 user account of the PC.

It appears the problem was a loose SATA cable at the drive side. I feel like an absolute arse now. Sorry for wasting your time @Sauron.

hahaha don't worry, I don't have much to do at the  moment ^^ I'm glad you found a solution anyway. I didn't know a loose sata cable could do that. Are you interested in my crysis 2 givaway (signature) ? might cheer you up a bit :)
