I need to calculate file transfer times but how would I do that?

Here's problem 1: File size = 100MB transfer rate = 56Kbps  Transfer time = ?
How would I solve this?

100MB = 819200 Kb

    819200 / 56

 14628.57 seconds

     ~4 hours

Would there also be a site to where I can figure out where you got 100MB = 819200 Kb and also why did you divide by 56?

100Mb to Kb, google has a little box at the top with the answer.

Well since they're both the same unit, Kilobits, I can now divide the amount of Kilobits by the transfer speed to find out the time it would take to transfer the file, assuming that you have an unwavering transfer speed of 56Kb/s.

Because that gives you a large amount, 14628.57 (seconds), you would typically convert it to the next unit of time (minutes).

To do so you would divide 14628.57 by 60 since there's 60 seconds in a minute, and you'd get 243.81 (minutes), which still isn't a particularly appealing number, so we'll convert it to hours.

As there's 60 minutes in an hour as well we'll just divide 243.81 by 60, and we get 4.06 (hours).

But how long is .06 of an hour? 

Multiply it by 60 to revert it to minutes and you get 3.6; So that's roughly 4 hours and 4 minutes.

You could also just say, " Well I know that 60x4 is 240 so it's just over 4 hours."

My TI-84 gave me 4.063 hours so you pretty much got it correct

what college class is this from. It sounds like a high school freshman problem. Just use simple dimensional analysis 

This is a very basic example of dimensional analysis. Use it whenever dealing with changing units to other units
