Hard drives

Go to solution Solved by terrytek,

Can I format by booting from the windows disc? I've never had any experience doing this, only installing an OS on a fresh system.

Yeah, during installation, when you choose the disk to install Windows to, and there should be a link to format the disk.

So my friend was about to chuck his tower in the trash and rather than let him throw away hundreds of dollars of components, and took it off of his hands. Unfortunately, it hasn't been run for several months and the password to log into windows is forgotten.

My question is that if I buy a new hard drive and install windows on it, will I encounter any errors with the hardware or software because it was previously booted with a different drive that had windows? Basically I want to scrap the entire hard drive and throw a new one in and install windows on the new one.

The computer itself was purchased from iBuyPower in 2011 and has an ASROCK 970 Extreme 3 motherboard. The only piece of hardware im effectively able to identify

I figured this community was the most knowledgeable about the subject and I wanted to take precautions before going out to purchase a new drive.

EDIT: Crap, this is in the wrong section i know. Sorry!

Why don't you just format the current hdd and install windows there from the start? To answer your questions, no, there will be no problem whatsoever.
