Trading GTX 770 SLI for a single card?

Hey guys! I was thinking about chaning my setup and hope you could give me some Advice.

 

My situation is this: I got my GTX 770 SLI setup (originally GTX 680 SLI, but I used EVGA stepup and only payed shipping) because I always wanted a powerfull PC and needed to try out a multi GPU system on my own.

While my PC works just fine there are the typical drawbacks of having two videocards: more power, more heat (which is actually quite a lot now in summer), more noise, scaling issues in some games etc...

Over the last year my thoughts about SLI have changed a bit and also I don' t play as much games anymore because studying is quite time intensive.

 

To cut a long story short: I have the opportunity to sell both of my 770s in the next month and I'm not 100% sure what to do. Should I keep them, buy a 780ti with a custom cooler or an EVGA GTX 780 an hope that the 800 series comes out in time so I can use their Step Up programm?

First off, how much are you selling them for? That makes a huge difference. Second, keep in mind there is no single GPU on the market that will match your 770 SLI setup in terms of FPS, even at just 1080p. The extra VRAM on a 780 or 780 Ti will help with stuttering or framerate drops if you are running out of VRAM in certain games, but two 770's outperform a 780 Ti in terms of FPS by about 25% or more depending on the game and resolution.

That's why I asked how much you were selling your 770's for. There is no real reason to switch to a 780 or 780 Ti unless you will be able to sell you 770's for more than the price of whatever you are going to replace them with.

You pay for GTX 770 setup ? i got a GTX 680 and i put GTX 770 bios on my 680 and i got a 770 ) no money pay.  And the OC is 1.3 Ghz per GPU and 7200 on memory

If selling the 770s gets you less than what you need for a 780 Ti then I wouldn't do it. If heats that much of an issue you can use a program like MSI afterburner to limit temps by throttling. You can also limit frames in games so the cards don't get pushed as hard. If It was me though I would probably buy some Kraken g10s and put Cheap AIO cooling kits on them lol.

You can sell your GTX 770's for anywhere between $250-300 on eBay. Which means your only going to make about $600 max. The cheapest 780 Ti is a MSI GTX 780Ti Gaming, which goes for about $629, $599 with rebate. So that's really your only option if you stick with the green team. If you go with the red team you can pick up a Sapphire TRI-X OC 290X for $529.99

Just wait for 22nm cards to release next year, you will just waste time and money changing your graphics cards now and get even lower FPS.

I can give you my GTX 760 for your 770's   Just kidding. Stick with them and wait for the 800 series, then you sell them. If you sell them now you're going to get the money to buy a 780 Ti, but 2 770's perform better than a 780 Ti.
