@Totally-A-Hero

nope, run what 'cha got. prolly got some restocking fee and extra charges that would

make it unnecessary to swap for some extra clicks of GHz.

ok thanks

You got a good deal, the i7-4790k is the exact same thing as the i7-4770k except with improved TIM, a 500 MHz clock bump, and it will probably yield better overclocks more often. Other than that, no differences in performance at all.

In your case you got $450-500 worth of hardware for $290, what is there to worry about.  :)

Just wondering if you meant you were going to,be returning both the Z97 motherboard and 4770k CPU.

I'm just curious because even if you got the 4820k it wouldn't work with Z97, if you didn't know that already.

4820k is LGA 2011, not 1150.

It's 500MHz, not 100. 4770k was 3.4 (3.9 turbo) while 4790k is 4.0 (4.4 turbo).

Opps, brains not working at 2 AM, edited my post to reflect that.

@Totally-A-Hero

You can always overclock to 4.4 GHz and you basically got better than a i7-4790k. From what I have seen, the i7-4790k only yields a 200 MHz higher overclock than the i7-4770k at best. Plus it does run a few degree's cooler, which in my opinion doesn't justify returning your i7-4770k. If you are a overclocking nut I could possibly see why going back for the i7-4790k, otherwise the money you saved on your purchase is a big plus. The cheapest i7-4790k bundle at Micro Center is $384.98. I am curious, what Z97 motherboard did you get with your i7-4770k?

Have you tried overclocking? Because that's the main difference between these 2 CPUs.

If it is a good overclocker,there is no reason to return it.If it's not,start driving xD

Is OC ing really gonna make a huge difference on 2x290's?

I can see your are not that much into overclocking so there is no reason to get the 4790k ;)

Grab the hyper 212 whenever you want($30) a give it a try. I'm pretty srue you can get it to 4.3ghz without a sweat.

Depends on the games. Some will benefit a lot,some will not.

A 2 hour drive costs more than 10 $ and 100 MHz greater overclock.

SO is it worth it to drive and get it?

If you can get the i7-4790k for $10 less than what you paid it boils down to how much gas it costs for you to go back. I personally would go back if the i7-4790k is $10 cheaper than the i7-4770k in a bundle. So if you can return your CPU and get both the i7-4790k and Z97 motherboard for $280 then it may be worth while. If you're required to swap out for a i7-4790k bundle that costs nearly $100 more then no it's not worth it. The i7-4790k can also yield higher overclocks more often than the i7-4770k due to a mature manufacturing process so if you ever decide to overclock.

Ok well i might then i already have the Z97 so they will let me grab a 4790k for $20 more costs more in California apperantly. It would cost $20 in gas and 4 hours of my time IF i dont hit traffic (wich i will) so i dunno i have to decide.
