I am building a gaming computer soon as it is the holidays (YAY) and i am not sure whether to get the i5 4460 or the "pentium K". I already have the graphics card and it is an XFX R9 280x dd.

Here are my options, and yes I know there is no storage but i am going to get this:

What do you think I should do? I have never overclocked before but I am a bit scared.

you dont realy need overclocking for gaming. its just an over hyped gimmick, especialy on intel side, you won´t gain much performance in gaming.

just grab one of those locked i5´s they are totaly fine for gaming. Much better then that pentium

That Pentium OC, is rubbish.

Don't make hilariously wrong blanket statements please, they confuse those who are less informed.

There is nothing wrong with my statement.

You dont need to overclock for gaming. ;)

Do you need to? no you don't, Do you gain performance depending on the scenario? Yes

Saying "you won´t gain much performance in gaming" is incorrect as depending on the game you can get MASSIVE performance increases.

its just what you personaly understand in "massive" performance gain.

For me 10fps maybe on 1080p is not mindblowing, to be honnest. if you calculate that to the cost that comes with it, for better cooling, and mobo. to me its not worth it.

Better invest in the best GPU you could get, instead of an OC cpu+ capable mobo!

you will gain much more fps from a better gpu then a cpu overclock.

Especialy if you look for a small formfactor itx system, on which space, and cooling options are limited.

In this case he allready has the gpu so its less important, but still.

Offcourse he will gain fps wenn overclocking, but its not that "massive" that you realy need it (but if you are an fps junky then yeah, it could make sense for you!)

P.s i don't apprieciate to speak to as M8.  ;)

Also the fact, that op was talking about 2 locked i5´s, and that Pentium OC, on which the locked i5, will just blow that Pentium out of the water just saying..

So yeah the things you "guys" argue about, are also less important
