Hello friends! I am planning to get a new PC after summer as I am able to work a lot, I will have a budget of around £1000. (I may be willing on spending a little more as I don't want to cheap out on something and lower the build standard) I aim to use it for gaming and college work. The games will vary, it could be Battlefield 4 or it could be Gamedev Tycoon. I hope for it to run at 1080p at 60fps on most games aon the 'high' setting (or the equivalent). The college work is nothing heavy, just things like Word and Powerpoint so Microsoft University will be a strong contender in that column. I only plan on running one monitor, which will run at 1920x1080. I will only be running one monitor, don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I don't need any peripherals, I am fine there. I am upgrading because I feel my parts are outdated and I can't purchase parts and upgrade on my current motherboard. I also think my case won't fit anything better (or bigger for that matter) into it. I have a partlist lined up, but I'm not sure if it could be better for my budget.

CPU - Intel Core i5-4670K - £155.94

CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i - £80.99

Motherboard - Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 - £104.99

Memory - G.Skill Ripjaw X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866MHz - £58.55

Storage - Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - £77.16

Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Superclocked ACX (1.11GHz) - £264.98

Case - Corsair 300R ATX - £59.16 (need help here, not sure if this case is any good)

PSU - Corsair RM 650w 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply - £83.93

Optical Drive - Lite-On iHas124-04 DVD/CD Writer - £11.88

Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) - £69.95

The total is £967.23, this is excluding Microsoft University, but I will add that on top as long as everything else is below a £1000.

@CaptainCat

That looks like a very well rounded system. +1 for taking a look at a Z97 board + a 4690K just because it's the latest and greatest.

What is you budget exactly?

If you have a few extra bucks, I would HUGHLY reccomend a 128GB SSD, you will notice a great increase in performance in day to day tasks.

My budget is £1000, thanks, I'll have a look at the prices! :D Do you recommend going down to 2TB and having a good SSD, or sticking to 3TB and a cheaper SSD?

I'd go for air cooling (Like a Thermalright Macho HR-02 Rev. A) and drop the 3TB HDD to a 1TB or 2TB HDD, and with the money saved get a 120GB / 128GB SSD. I you are going to play a lot BF4 I'd reccomend getting a R9 280X, since it's a beast with Mantle, and has more VRAM, but choose what fits you best and what features you want.

A 128GB HDD will run you ~40 for a cheap one and ~55 for some of the most reccomended.

Can't go wrong with that Samsung Evo. If you need the 3TB, then keep it, otherwise, Downsize and just add another 1/2tb when you find one dirt cheap on sale or something.

Thank you very much for the tips! I'll start looking for the alternatives now, would you say that a R9 280X is better value for money?

AMD cards in general offer far better value for money. Unless you need the features of an Nvidia card CUDA/Physx etc then go AMD. I will knock you up a spec from Overclockers, as i can't stand using Partpicker.Takes too long for me to find stuff  :D
