Could be possible if you have enough money.

But  he might be telling you his network card speed which is usually 1gb these days.

He could be confusing it with the LAN connection speed when he checked the advanced settings in the Networking.

1gbit(not gbyte) exists now, but few places has access to it so yea..  its not impossible just extremely unlikely

You can get 1gbps in lithuania if you pay more, but currently consumers can easily get 300-500mbps. I have 100 and it's currently enough. (I pay 10 eur. could get 500mbps for 20 eur, but eh.)

 Totally possible I mean google fiber is consumer grade and it's 1Gb up and down... and working on going to 1GB

It's possible, where I live, we all have fiber optic cable at home, but the speed is limited, depending on how much you pay. I for example have 100Mbits Up and down actually, more is just way to expensive.

Probably he's refering to the lan speed that pops up when he plugs in the ethernet cable! Speedchecker via a browser is the only way to tell, but rest asured that 1gb/sec is not possible. unless he's on a private ftp server .

 

or google fibre.. (meh you never know)

I have a 1gbps up/down connection, so it is possible, just highly unlikely. He is probably referring to the network card in his computer, which is pretty much always 1gbps these days.
