does his PSU have enough power?

I don't know why the h77 mobo doesn't run the gpu, it should. Check that the 290x works on another computer before spending money for a new motherboard, it might be a faulty card. to answer your question, yes, the b75MA-E33 should have no problem, but neither should the h77 one. Could you be more specific on what precise h77 board he has and what his other specs are?

He has an ECS H77h2-m3 and the power supply is sufficient (cx600). I've tried using my psu (fsp ra750) and it doesn't run either. He has an i5 3570 and the 280x runs fine on my 8350 w/ biostar ta990fxe. The reason why he's changing is because the product doesn't seem to be available in Indonesia anymore and he just wants a better manufacturer.

I say update the BIOS on the mobo first before you just buy a new mobo

I'll try that. If that doesn't work, I'll try to find another solution

install the AMD 14.4 drivers first with the onboard if he can boot to OS

Yeah I had to do what @dragoon20005 said to get my GPU working on my motherboard.

Intel i5-4670K, Asus Maximus VII (z97), 16gb Kingston, Asus Gtx 780, Fractal Design Define Mini, 250Gb Samsung Evo, Corsair CS650M
