HDD won't initialize

Pulled out a 120GB drive from an Xbox but can't get it to initialize.

I've formatted it with Ultimate Boot CD but that didn't help.

Any replies are appreciated :)

It's a lot easier with ps3's. Just plug and play. I think you need something called Xplorer360. Google-fu

Nothing to do with that mate, a 360 drive is just a standard 2.5" laptop drive in an enclosure with an adaptor cable.

I have done this before with two ps3's, recovering music and movies was really easy. Hmm.. I'm assuming you've already been in disk management for a good 30 minutes. I'm out of ideas. Wish you luck.

Well xbox drives are formatted with FAT32. But from what Wats has said it sounds like they come with some disk encryption, a guide is found here http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-connect-your-xbox-360-hard-drive-to-your-pc/

It also won't format when installed in an Xbox, so i'm thinking it's a bad drive.

Hopefully that's not the case as it's my friend's and we opened it up straight after he bought it without testing it :(
