Hello guys,

I'm new on this forum, but I came here with a problem I couldn't find an answer to.

A few months back I built a new pc. A few days back the pc shut off unexpectedly, but now it won't turn on again. It turns on for a flash and then turns off again. My initial thought was that the CPU or motherboard failed on me. So I went on and inspected the motherboard. While searching I found a bent pin in the cpu socket. So I tried to bend it back, and got the pin back at it's original location. But my pc still won't turn on. After this I tried unplugging some power connectors, and I found out that the pc will stay on when I unplug the cpu power connector but there is no display or anything.

Now my question is, what's most likely to be dead? I would like to know this so I won't have to pay a load of money on a wrong RMA'd product.

CPU and Motherboard in question are : Intel Core i7 and Asus Maximus VI Gene.

Thanks in advance.

Did you bend the pin when you installed the CPU?

Can't figure out how the PC was working fine with a bent pin...

My friend broke 3 pins on his 8320 and it is working fine :P

Well.. not all pins are essential. You can check out this video to understand a bit more about these pins  :):
