So it happened, I got Ebayed

Go to solution Solved by andriyk47,

Update:  I picked up the new PSU from NCIX Ottawa and the card came to life :P. BTW seller was totally cool would recommend him!

Bot a R9 280x Toxic on ebay for half the price of a new one and PC wont boot with it, getting 6 fast beeps which is GPU related code. I have a 550 watt PSU but everything powers up and lights up just doesn't boot. I ordered a EVGA 850watt PSU for a new rig I am building so will try it with that.

hold me guys never bot electronics from ebay before don't know if its possible to return.

Update: got a response from the sender.

"It was working before I shipped it to you, so let me know once you try a different power supply. If it works then great! But if it doesn't work, send the card back, and when I receive it I'll give you a full refund, does that work for you? Or instead of a refund, I could send you a different 280x (sapphire dual-fan x edition), however I do not have another toxic that I can send you."

One thing is that my PSU has 6pin and 8pin power which is supposed to work but I think 2x8pin is recommend.

It's a pretty old PSU, maybe it doesn't have enough rails? Contact the seller now and tell him you're trying a new PSU. If that fails, ask for a return.

Yeah my case has very bad dust and ventilation and get really hot so I think maybe the PSU isn't able to deliver enough power but everything lights up and stays on and beeps.

The seller looks reputable so I think it's that your PSU can't power it.

What PSU are you using at the moment?

Regardless contact the seller stating what you're doing, just in case they make any claims like you had it for a while.

I went to the local NCIX in Ottawa and they were completely useless. I asked for a 2x molex to 8pin power or something with 8 pin power and was told that they don't have anything and probably cant order either. Unfortunately electronics stores nowadays only stock big ticket items like mobos and GPUs but that's just how retail stores work nowadays.

eBay has a money back guarantee. Call them up immediately.

Yeah, that don't mean shit for the buyer. I stopped using eBay years ago when I got ripped off buying some 360 games. Seller listed them as "New" and "Sealed in original packaging". But they were all used, scratched to shit and the seller just resealed them in plastic. eBay told me I would have to get an "expert" to sign a legal affidavit stating that the games were not in fact new. The "expert" being someone from Microsoft. Needless to say, it was an impossible burden of proof and pictures of the scratched discs was not enough for them.

Not only did I not get my money back, but they allowed the seller to post a negative comment about me because I filed a dispute.

On the old PSU, were you just plugging in one 8-pin and one 6-pin? If you did that, and the card has 2 8-pin plugs, then that was probably the problem
