i was just wondering if i can control the RPM on my 140mm fan that is mounted on top of my case. The RPM at the moment is 1473 RPM, the fan is too noisy for my liking and every time i play games, there is only one 120mm fan exhausting the air out, so i assume it gets really hot inside the case. I don't normally connect the 140mm fan because of the noise.

Now, the question is, can i control the fan speed? I have it connected to the 3 pin header on my motherboard. I know there is a program such as SpeedFan, but the problem is, i have no idea how to work it. Does anyone have a guide or tutorial on how to set a fan up so you can control it? That would be highly appreciated.

Thank You.

OpenHardwareMonitor. Select fan, set speed to it, done. Since its 3pin your options with mobo controlled are 12V/100% or 7V/50%. For lower or something in between you need hardware controller.

Right click on any of fan control and setup percentage. Note that since they are 3pins you can only have 25%, 50% or 100% as effective and I'm not even sure if 25% would work. Also the fans must be set automatic from BIOS. If you set them manual there it overwrites any software controls.
